FRIENDS OF NORFOLK HERITAGE PARK

MEETING HELD IN CENTRE-IN-THE-PARK

MONDAY 2nd March 2004

1. Minutes of the Last Meeting
Agreed as a true record. Josie and Peter Ashton,
Cath Brown and Roz Wollen to be added to list of members present

2. Matters Arising
Taken under Agenda Items

3. Youth service
Letter sent to Jim Reid (tabled). Request for senior member of Sheffield Futures /Connexions to attend April meeting. (Dave Campbell- Sheffield Futures-this section)
CITP Youth Service sessions lost 2staff and 1admion staff. Issues with cover for sickness. Caretakers put a notice on the CITP entrance to let young people know (when they arrive) that the session is cancelled.
(Park Community Centre have lost 1 .5 posts)
It was suggested that a petition be presented to an area panel inquiring into reduction of Youth Service Provision. Questions to be asked at Educational Scrutiny Board meeting.

4. Web site
AB (webmaster @norfolk-park.com) gave a presentation on the updated site. Comments /replies to FA feedback were tabled by AB. Site now linked with Council website. Website content dependant on AB being provided with updated information.

5. Centre in the Park
NH welcomed the new vicar for St. Pauls / Leonards ( Fell Brigg) Rev Jasper Tor Hodges 2/03/04.
A very successful ‘Funday’ was held during half-term 19th Feb
Event to celebrate ‘International Women’s Day 08/03/04 was attended by 212 people, and was a great success.
Staffing- David Taylor’s contract (DT temp for Jim Ludlam who is still on sick leave) will finish at the end of March.
Roger Hancock (gardener /park keeper) still on sick leave.

6. The Park
Sports Pavillion- behind schedule due to weather.
Bowling Greens have been vandalised again.
Gates restoration started
Lantern (lighting etc) to be included in the above work
Marie Curie Daffodil sign reinstated.
Norfolk Park Wildlife Watch Group carried out a bird and bat survey
Bird boxes made by children during the Funday have been fixed inplace around the park.
Syringes are still being found in the Park and Jervis Lum.
Norfolk Park carnival to be held in NHP on Sat. 24th July.
Celebrity ‘It’s a Knockout’ for the Anthony Nolan Trust planned for July
Nissen Primera Car Club Event 28th March.
NHP applying for Green Flag Award- management plan submitted. Judging May/June

7. Jervis Lum
Letter sent to Mick Docherty (Street Force) tabled)) stating the grave concerns the group has regarding the amount of rubbish etc within the Lum.
Clear up has only taken place around the area on the side of the road near to the Community School
This level of dumping is an ‘Anti Social Behavior’ issue.



8. SWT
Jervis Lum Bridge- work still on going.
Tree Nursery no longer to be based in CITP, therefore will have no office within the centre.
LC will now only be working 1 1/2days at NHP and 2/1/2days at Arbourthorne
(South Sheffield Partnership)
Other staff changes /cuts are also happening at SWT.
Young people of Norfolk Heritage Park Estate are worried about litter issues. Project to work on this -posters/awareness etc.

9. Outside the Park
Norfolk Community Primary School opened Thursday 26th February.
Ahl-e-hadith Community Centre, 84, Norfolk Road received £500. From SWT. To be used for preliminary design work for grounds /gardens .


10. Photo Competition
Entries continue to be received

11. Sheffield Fayre
Council website- down loading horticultural schedule
Suggestions re funding:-
 Application to area panels.( Manor/Castle, Park / Heeley etc)
 Housing Association- Hallam, Northern Counties, Anchor. NP Regeneration North British, Gleesons
 Business in the community B&Q etc.
 Car Boot Sales to commence when Sports Pavillion completed and Open.

12. Extra AGM
Following the adoption of a revised constitution to facilitate funding applications it is now necessary to have an Annual General Meeting in May (which will be held on the 10th may 2004 at 7.30pm) This will be brief as the previous AGM took place on the 2nd February 2004.

13. AOB
 New Community Safety Officer- PC183 John Whittaker. To commence duties on Monday 9th February. PC Whittaker will be based at Attercliffe
 New Sgts, Russ Deakin and Alison Shaw.
 Pie and Pea Supper CITP 25th March 7pm
 Very successful trip to ROH Covent Garden with children from St John’s( Park) School to see the ballet ‘Sleeping Beauty’
